Race victory for Silverstone Auctions sponsored rider at Isle of Man TT

4th June 2018

Silverstone Auctions sponsored motorcycle rider Michael Dunlop took an emotional win in the opening Superbike race of the 2018 Isle of Man TT this weekend.

Competing for the Tyco BMW team, Dunlop’s teammate Dan Kneen tragically lost his life in a crash on the course during Wednesday night’s practice. However, after the late rider’s father gave the team his blessing for them to continue, Dunlop stormed to victory with a massive 51-second advantage over second placed Connor Cummins, giving Dunlop his 16th career TT win.

Speaking after his victory, Dunlop said, “I wanted to do something in Dan’s memory, that win is for his family, it’s hard to celebrate this win – it’s been a hard week. I struggled at the start and it took me time to settle. I had a bit of a problem with the rear end but I got my rhythm going and the Tyco BMW team have done a great job. The bike hasn’t missed a beat.”

Silverstone Auctions announced their decision to sponsor Michael earlier in the year having followed his progress and victories for a number of years. Indeed, Silverstone Auctions’ managing director Nick Whale, previously supported Michael’s father, Robert.

Commenting on Michael’s win, Nick Whale said, “Wow, what an emotional week! It goes without saying our congratulations go to Michael. To win at the TT is no mean feat but to do so after such a difficult week really is a fantastic achievement and shows what Michael is made of.”
