The 356 model is acknowledged as being Porsche's first production car. It was a lightweight rear engine two door sports car with nimble handling. It was available as a hardtop coupe or in an open top configuration. Design innovations continued during the years of manufacture, contributing to its motorsports success and popularity. The model was originally created by Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche (son of Dr. Ing. Ferdinand Porsche, founder of the company), based on an original design by Porsche employee Erwin Komenda, its mechanicals (including engine, suspension and chassis) were derived from the Volkswagen.
Porsche re-engineered and refined the car with a focus on performance. The ultimate evolution of the 356 was the Speedster, launched in 1954 it was a huge success amongst club races and captured the imagination of the American car-buying public. Today, the Porsche 356 is a highly regarded collector's car.
The Chesil Motor Company is based in Dorset in the UK and has a well-earned reputation for building excellent specialist cars. This stunning Chesil Speedster replica was built by the factory in 2003 at a cost of over £25,000. The car features a 2,000cc air cooled engine, stainless steel exhaust system, Moto-Lita steering wheel and an immobiliser. Having covered only 2,131 miles at the time of cataloguing, this Chesil is still factory fresh and on the button, having been used sparingly by its one lady owner. The car will be supplied with an MoT test certificate and its private registration number, L4 SLX
