LIVE AUCTION: This lot was auctioned on Sunday 28th March, 2021 at 10.00am GMT at Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh Rd, Coventry, CV8 2LG

DESCRIPTION

In 1958, Mike Hawthorn became Britain's first World Drivers' Champion and this lightweight Everoak helmet was used by Mike during the late fifties. It has a black lacquer outer with a cork, black leather and black webbing lined shell, black leather chin straps and peak and is fitted with a Herbert Johnson visor. It's formerly the property of Mike's great chum, RRC 'Rob' Walker, who we believe was given it by Mike's mum, Winifred, after the funeral in 1959. Rob duly gave it to Tom Wheatcroft in 1968 and he, in turn, gifted it to his son Kevin on his 21st Birthday. It was proudly on display at the Donington Grand Prix Collection from 1973 until 2005 and the helmet is accompanied by a Letter of Provenance from the Wheatcrofts.

Any motor vehicles not collected by 1pm on Wednesday 31st March will be taken to our transport partners storage facility for a fee of £150 plus VAT. Storage will be charged at £10 plus VAT per day from Thursday 1st April onwards.
