DESCRIPTION

First introduced in 1959, the Mini is the most famous small car in the world. The inventor, Sir Alec Issigonis, and friend, John Cooper, could both see the potential of the car in competition and their joint vision lead to the Morris Mini Cooper fis a very usable dress Omega timepiece.

irst appearing in 1961. Their development and evolution eventually led to the Austin Mini Cooper S appearing in 1963, and they went on to claim world-wide success in both rallying and racing with the versatile and nimble Mini. The Cooper S's iconic appeal as a sportier version of the Mini was specifically underlined by its success at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967, as well as its appearance in the 1967 British film, 'The Italian Job', in which Minis and Mini Coopers play a key role in a bank heist.

Built 8th May 1967, this Mk1 Austin Mini cooper S was delivered new to Aberdeen motors. It was purchased in 1980 by our vendor and used sparingly for just 1 year as a show car (being taken to many local classic car events). The car was put away in the garage in immaculate and believed original condition showing just 36,335 miles.

Fate would then mean that the car would not turn a wheel for a further 32 years! As time went by, more and more items were placed in the garage until the mini was barely visible. It was then rediscovered recently and saw daylight once again for the first time since the 1980s.

Unfortunately, when it left the garage the Mini was not in the same condition as when it entered. A leak in the garage roof had been slowly dripping on to the car running down the rain gutters down the A-pillars and eventually coming to rest in the sills and footwells which of course now need attention. Due to this, damp has affected the interior of the car and dashboard panel as well. Since being pulled from its long term resting place the brakes have been freed and the engine we are told was started on the key and does run with no knocks or smoke however the clutch is believed to be seized and we would recommend inspection of the engine as well.

Offered without reserved, this is a superb untouched example of the rare and highly desirable MkI Cooper S that is now prime for a loving restoration to return the car back to its once show condition.
