SUMMARY
Elegant and understated in Mendip Blue, this is a delightful example of Ian Callum's timeless DB7.
DESCRIPTION
Introduced to the public in 1993, the handsome new DB7 was Aston Martin’s first six-cylinder model since production of the DB6 Mk. II ended in 1971. Styled by Ian Callum, its lines were evocative of earlier Aston Martin models and elements of the DB4/5/6 could be seen in its design. Arguably one of the most attractive looking cars ever produced by Aston Martin, the DB7 was well received and attracted new customers worldwide with its traditional layout and curvaceous two-seat coupé bodywork. The 24-valve, in-line six-cylinder displaces only 3.2-litres but with around 15psi of supercharged atmosphere chasing the Super Unleaded, it produces a respectable 335bhp at 5,750rpm, sufficient to hasten the Aston to 60mph in just 5.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 165mph.
Offered here is a lovely early DB7 Coupé originally supplied by Stratstone Mayfair, as verified by the Vehicle Build Record, and first registered in October 1997. A few days later, the private registration number, R60 AML, was assigned to the Aston and pleasingly remains on the car today, forming part of this sale. Superbly finished in sparkling Mendip Blue with Magnolia Hide piped in Mendip Blue and matching blue carpets, the car's striking looks are enhanced by 18-inch Vantage wheels and a stainless steel Vantage grille.
Forming part of a private collection for the last 10 years, used only on sunny days, dry stored correctly and recently maintained by a classic sports car specialist, this example is presented to auction with a comprehensive history file with 14 stamps in the original service book and a wealth of supporting invoices detailing maintenance. Fitted with a battery isolator and kept on a trickle charger under a fitted cover, the car starts on-the-button and is described as performing well. Currently the odometer indicates just 66,984 miles and the current MOT, showing 'no advisories', is valid until March 2023. Also present within the history file are a current V5C ready for transfer, old MOT Certificates, a full set of DB7 workshop manuals and a picture of Her Majesty the Queen with ‘R60 AML’ taken at the Royal Windsor St Georges Day Festival of Aston Martin in 2005. A super-looking modern classic Aston in a great colour that would look stylish arriving at any event or local classic car show offered at a very reasonable guide price ready for this summer.
